Beginner Dance
Beginning Dance explores movement as a creative art form. You will experience the role of both dancer and choreographer, and will also have opportunities to present your work in formal and informal settings. You will be introduced to dance elements, choreographic tools/structures and the history and techniques of a variety of dance genres (African, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, modern, etc.) with the strongest focus on modern and jazz dance.
You will develop body awareness, understand proper body alignment, and increase physical strength, flexibility and endurance. You will also learn how to care for your body while exploring movement. Creation and performance (CP), dance movement skills (DM), responding (R) and connecting (C) are the four main focus areas in the curriculum.
